In an effort to take the African mobile space there’s a new development – Xiaomi partners with Jumia. They will have access to sell their phones exclusively on the popular e-commerce platform. If you remember clearly I made a post concerning Xiaomi’s plans to come back to Africa and now they have partnered with Jumia.
Xiaomi Partners With Jumia- What It Means
This partnership means Jumia will open the Mi official store on its platform and give Xiaomi access to millions of online customers across 14 countries in Africa while Jumia will be able to offer the Redmi Go (1GB+8GB) exclusively in Africa as well as other devices later in the year.
According to Xiaomi VP –
“We believe in working with companies that share our values and delighted to partner with Jumia to reach more Mi fans across Africa,” said Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi. “The e-commerce model is part of Xiaomi’s DNA and we believe that working with Jumia will help us bring innovation for everyone across the continent.”
This partnership covers Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Ghana, and will gradually expand to other countries where Jumia operates. Most markets will be directly supplied from China.
Xiaomi Partners With Jumia- What I Think About It
In general, I’d say this is a bold move from Xiaomi but if they want to really shake the big boys here (Tecno, Infinix and Itel) , they should provide offline stores in the top 5 cities in the country – Lagos , Port Harcourt , Abuja , Kano And Ibadan.
Also they should provide excellent customer service and service centers in those locations as well. A lot of people are still scared of buying things online.
Last but not least, they should have a new branch Xiaomi Nigeria and the team should engage in massive marketing from billboards to digital ads. Personally, I feel fellow techies like me wouldn’t say they don’t know Xiaomi but if they really want to reach out to everyone , ads are a must and one more thing. Don’t forget tech reviewers not based in Lagos, Cheers.
Xiaomi Officially Launches In Nigeria On April 24
On April 24, Xiaomi Officially Launches In Nigeria .Earlier this year I made a post about Xiaomi having plans to expand to African countries this year and they’ll be taking on big brands like Tecno, Infinix and iTel. Xiaomi has announced on it’s official page that it’ll be debuting officially in Nigeria as a brand in Lagos on the 24th of April.
This is definitely going to be interesting .Xiaomi is undoubtedly one of the biggest brands in the world and launching in Nigeria is a very good move. I think it has set the Transsion big boys on a new path and would bring healthy competition no doubt.
Xiaomi Officially Launches In Nigeria
However, Tecno , Infinix and iTel still control almost 80 percent of the smartphone market, it’ll be interesting to see how Xiaomi fares over here despite the harsh economic situation. I do hope they can find room to thrive here. All the same it’s good to see an Mi Launch in Nigeria.
Welcome To Nigeria, Xiaomi.
