The Nokia 9 Pureview has been one of the most hugely anticipated Nokia phones of 2019 ever since leaks of the device kept appearing on many sites online with reports that it would be a 5 camera phone.

Everyone has been anticipating the release of the Nokia 9 and finally, Nokia did the honors of unveiling what would be their flagship device for the first quarter of 2019 at the MWC held in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

The device comes with a total of 7 cameras – 5 behind and 2 as the front-facing camera for taking amazing selfies. At the moment, the Nokia 9 PureView is the first Android smartphone from Nokia and also globally to come with 5 cameras.

So without further ado, let’s check out what the Nokia 9 PureView brings to the table and also the Nokia 9 price in Nigeria and globally.

Design and Display

The Nokia 9 PureView is the world’s first Penta-lens android cameraphone with five 12Mp cameras at the rear. It looks pretty odd looking at it but it’s definitely worth it if you are a huge fan of photography. This could actually turn into your daily driver. The display is a 5.99 inch OLED display with a 79.7% screen-to-body ratio. You also get a 1440 x 2880 display resolution with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It also supports HDR 10.

In case you are wondering where the fingerprint sensor is, the sensor is placed below the display. I’m guessing it’s an optical sensor, not the ultra-sonic sensor you would see on the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.

There is no notch on the device and it’s kind of notch and is protected with Gorilla Glass 5 front . However, I’m pretty disappointed because there’s also a lot more bezel here than you see on other flagship phones.

Camera

I’m going to spend a little time in this section because the camera is the major selling point of this device.  Like I said previously, the Nokia 9 Pureview has 5 rear cameras.  Two out of the five are RGB lenses, and the other three are Monochrome, each with an f/1.8 aperture and able to capture 1.25um pixels.

In every shot you take, all five cameras are used, with the results stitched together to create what should be an awesome and highly detailed image. It’s basically the same thing Google does on the Google Pixel phones with a single lens, but by using five lenses the processing is much faster.

Nokia has partnered with Zeiss and also Adobe for the device, which means you can use Adobe Lightroom to edit images shot on the phone, including RAW-format pics.

Here are a few samples of some pictures shot on the Nokia 9 Pureview

Performance And Connectivity

The Nokia 9 comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Under the hood is an older Snapdragon 845 processor seen on most 2018 flagship devices which aren’t too disappointing but considering this phone was released in 2019 I actually expected more from Nokia.

There’s dual sim support and you get 2 nano sim slots and 4G connectivity support on this device

Infinix Smart 3 Plus Launched In Nigeria - Full Specifications 11

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus is a new device launched by Infinix Mobile and it comes with decent specifications. It’s a device I would say is a mid-range budget device so don’t expect much power from this phone.

INFINIX SMART 3 Plus

I still feel with Xiaomi around in Nigeria now Infinix would have stepped up their game but it seems they’re just recycling designs ever since they released the first device with a tear drop notch.

Infinix Smart 3 Plus Features

The triple rear camera is quite interesting as well.  In terms of design you get a plastic unibody with glass-finish at the back. The glass-finish adds a premium finish to the phone but unfortunately makes it a fingerprint magnet.

There’s also a microUSB port, the 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone just right below the device. The front of the phone shows the teardrop notch, the selfie camera and the earpiece. Sound quality is not that bad however, The Smart 3 Plus has a downward firing mono speaker which isn’t too loud and you’ll actually prefer using your headphones. I still wonder why Infinix didn’t use the Dirac Speakers in this device.

It has a HD+ resolution display with a 2.5D glass for a premium feel. But I’m a bit disappointed with the 720p resolution and the large display doesn’t actually show what we all expected. It’s a bit low but I’m guessing it’s a sacrifice to put the phone in the budget range.

The back of the phone houses the triple-camera setup .The primary sensor is a 13-megapixel camera with a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a low-light QVGA sensor.

Let’s take a look at the quick specifications of the device

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities 14

In this post I’ll be looking at a something that has been bothering me for a while – How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities.

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities 15

Starting from the end of 2016 till date Android smartphone design aesthetics have moved from being a bit bulky to being almost bezelless.

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities

I appreciate that fact but every good thing comes with a little bad side and unfortunately the bad side of this issue might actually wreck the entire Android ecosystem if companies don’t come up with good enough designs to make people see reasons to actually get a new smartphone.

If you’re wondering what I mean by Android smartphones becoming commodities, well take a close look at this image below.

Can you tell the difference?

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities 17

Forget about the specs for a while and take a closer look. You know how we all see printers like mere products with different prices, we would see smartphones that way soon. Apart from that the user experience on every Android smartphone is very similar so it’s still basically the same product built on different hardware with an identical design. Doesn’t that remind you of a digital printer or any other computer peripheral?

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities 18

Even smartphone companies are aware of this hard truth, they want us to buy new phones but with everything in their lineup looking the same it’s harder to sell new flagship device.

So far only Huawei and Vivo aren’t experiencing problems in selling their flagship devices, the rest of the companies , Apple , Google and Samsung are finding it hard to sell their new smartphones and they are responding to this in different ways.

How Android Smartphones Are Slowly Turning Into Commodities 19

Google announced the Pixel 3A a few days ago, a smaller version of the Pixel 3 , Samsung and Apple have reduced the price of some of their devices (Apple’s price cut only affected China).

Sometime ago, Apple even had to reduce the speed for their older iPhones just to sell the newer ones.

I still give Samsung and Huawei a thumbs up for pulling off the design on the foldable smartphone. However they’re both still very expensive and not something average users would want to spend money on. Irrespective of the mishap that happened on the Galaxy Fold , I still think we can look towards foldable phones to bail the Android OS out. Hopefuly the next version of the Galaxy Fold won’t be a complete mishap.

Apple might actually survive the whole issue since they have total control over their OS, Android on other hand might not. Android Manufacturers should look beyond specs and give us something o
