People May Now Be Arrested For Not Registering Their WhatsApp Groups

I really wonder what's going on in Africa. I don't know if I should say madness is spreading through governments across Africa.

First Tanzanian Bloggers were asked to register their blogs for $900 , Ugandans were asked to pay N20 per day for using social media and now Zambians are now risking getting arrested if they don't register their WhatsApp groups.

This new rule was announced by Zambia Information and Communications Technology (ZICTA) boss Mofyta Chisala on Thursday, in a move widely perceived by many as efforts by the Zambian government to control free speech.

In his words,

We are coming up with a law where now every administrator must be registered so that he can put ethics or codes of conduct for anyone who is going to be on that blog because at the end of the day, we are going to arrest that person who created the WhatsApp group or the editor or co-odinator of the blog and that should not be the end game.

As crazy as this sounds, I strongly don't believe this law can be enforced unless they'll add spies on every group. Something I feel is practically impossible.

What's your take on this? Let me know in the comments
