WhatsApp is unarguably one of the most popular messaging application in the world. The Facebook-owned messaging app continues to internally develop new features. The company just announced its updated privacy policy and terms of service.

The messaging service has introduced a major upgrade in its application which will be one of the biggest since the application was launched.

WhatsApp is introducing the “Request Account Info” feature and details about how it will work. The company announced in this latest update that it is not sharing account information with its parent company, Facebook at this time.

With the “Request Account Info” feature of WhatsApp, you can request and export a report of your WhatsApp account information and settings. Examples of this information include your chats, pictures, videos, profile photo and group names.  A new FAQ support page details how the tool will work.

The feature is already available on Facebook and  Instagram offering a link to users and within 48 hours, all the data can is available for you to download. While WhatsApp’s support page says that account reports will be available approximately 3 days after the date requested. Meaning you have to wait 72 hours before you could download all the chats, pictures, videos, etc.

WhatsApp further shared plans in a blog post that it has done so to comply with the EU’s upcoming GDPR that will go into effect next month.

I really wonder if this would affect the automatic backup of chats and maybe if the update will include lost messages. Let's keep our fingers crossed till then 🤞.
