Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 1
Hello Guys.. let me first start this post by saying I’m extremely sorry for going AWOL on you guys for a couple of days, I had some issues I needed to resolve in school. I was actually supposed to make this post a couple of week ago but I decided to spend some more time with the device so I can write a proper and detailed review.

So, I got the Oukitel C8 review unit from Gearbest a couple of weeks ago and I must say that during my use of the device in the past couple of weeks I’ve been very impressed. Oukitel really made the C8 a solid phone.

So, without further ado let’s unbox this amazing device together.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

  • Clear Transparent Pack
  • Power Cable

OS,DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The C8 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and comes in 5 color variants ; I’ll certainly pick the gold one in a blink of an eye. Although the C8 also has a 3G variant, this 4G variant keeps the same 18:9 ratio display but comes with improved graphics and performance. The Oukitel C8 weighs just 155g making it a very light device however it doesn’t trim down the bezels. They look a bit chunky to me.

Looking at the display , the colors are quite vibrant and the white balance is even, the display panel comes with a rather strange 1280 x 640 resolution giving the phone a low ppi of 260.

Although 260 ppi is a bit low, we can forgive Oukitel because of the cost of the device. I know a couple of brands that the cost of their logo being on a product is higher than the cost of this phone .
I would have preferred having a higher resolution on this phone though.

Like most devices it has a protective glass and strange enough it’s not the popular Gorilla Glass we all know. Oukitel decided to go with Dragontail Glass.

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 5

It’s not something Merlin conjured from a magic spell.😁
Dragontail glass is actually the Japanese equivalent of gorilla glass.

I won’t bore you with the technical details but you and I know that a Dragon will definitely whoop a Gorilla’s ass any day. Probably when we exempt King Kong.😃😃

However, one little thing that I really don’t like about the device is the fact that the charging point is placed on top of the device so if you are a fan of charging docks, your phone is going to be upside down when charging

PERFOMANCE

The C8 ‘s performance like most devices in it’s price range can be rated as average. I didn’t experience any lags while using the phone and multi tasking is very smooth.  The phone runs on a MediaTek 6737 CPU.  It also comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage.
The storage can be expanded up to 64GB. Coming to graphics, It has an ARM made Mali-T720 GPU which is a low-end GPU (graphics processing unit) that can play almost all the graphically intensive Android games. The C8’s low resolution helps with this since there are less pixels that need pushing around.
However, if you are a heavy gamer, the C8 may struggle to keep up but if you’re a just an average smartphone user , the C8 will serve you well. Keeping the lights on is a removable 3000mAh battery.
So here’s a quick recap of the specs in the performance department –
2GB RAM
16GB Internal Storage (expandable to 64GB via micro SD)
Mali-T720 GPU
3000mAh Battery

CAMERA

The C8 comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera . There’s an LED Camera to support both cameras. I’ll rate the C8’s camera 5/10 because it doesn’t perform very well in low light situations but it’s quite okay during daytime shots.
Although some of the day time shots tend to look a bit grainy when zoomed in but it’s quite okay.
Here are a couple of shots I took on the C8. (P.S – If you want to see the video quality , you’ll have to watch the Review Video at the end of the post)

The camera also supports Geotagging, Multiple Shots, Autofocus and more.

NETWORK AND CONNECTIVITY

The phone has a dual SIM slot – One Micro Sim and One Nano SIM. There’s support for LTe,WCDMA,HSPDA and GSM. Here are the supported LTe Bands – 800,1800,2100,2600Mhz.
This means that it supports 4G on MTN,9mobile, Airtel , Smile and Ntel.  It also supports VoLTe( Voice Over Long Term Evolution). This means that you can make calls on networks with Volte support like Ntel. The advantage of VolTe here is this – Normally on phones without Volte support , your device has to switch to 3G to make calls then switches back to 4G when you need to use data services. The constant switching between 3G and 4G will run down your battery faster.
Also having VolTe means you get to make calls faster and hear the person on the other side in HD.

                                         SECURITY

When it comes to security the C8 is definitely no slouch. It has a finger print scanner that unlocks within 0.1 seconds and it’s accuracy is top notch. You can add up to five finger prints, so if you wish to add all of your fingers you can do that easily. The fingerprint is combined with the standard security as a secondary layer of security .(PIN, Password, Pattern).

The sound quality is also super .and believe me any device that offers you all that for less than $100 is definitely the device you ought to go for. Here’s  the review video below –

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 26

I just received the iTel P33 from iTel Mobile and in this post I’ll be doing an iTel P33 Unboxing and also talking about my first Impressions when handling the device.

itel p33 unboxing

In my opinion, the Itel P33 is definitely in a class of it’s own in the range of low-budget smartphones and I must say I was pretty impressed when I was handling the device and for what it’s worth, it certainly pushes other devices with similar specs off the grid.

Here’s a quick rundown of the specifications of the Itel P33

Itel P33 Specifications

  • Android Go 8.1.0
  • 5.5 ” Display
  • 1.3 GHz Quad Core Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal expandable memory
  • Dual SIM capability
  • Dual 8 MP Auto-Focus primary camera with LED flash
  • 5 MP front-facing camera
  • 4000 mAh removable battery

The software on the phone has undergone a considerable overhaul and it has more of a material design UI and is quite better that what you’ll find on the iTel P32 and overall performance is smoother.

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 30

Another interesting thing on the device that isn’t on it’s predecessor the P32 is the presence of Face ID and a dual rear camera setup that supports a lot of features.

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 31

The fingerprint scanner is mounted at the rear and unlocks pretty fast. The speaker placement is at the back of the device and of course the classic 3.5mm headphone jack. Although I feel it would have been better if the headphone jack was placed below the device.

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 32

By the side you get the power button and the volume keys. Keeping the lights on on the device is a 4000 mAh battery.

Whether this device is actually a budget phone or not, the iTel P33 is one impressive device and is definitely worth buying.

Meet The Tecno Spark 2 “A Premium Budget Smartphone” – Full Review, Specifications And Price

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 34
Tecno released the Spark 2 which is the next smartphone in its Spark lineup and this device comes with  features that will make you mistake it for a Flagship device. I previously wrote a first impressions post about it here –
https://www.naijatechguy.com/2018/07/meet-tecnos-spark-2-and-what-happened.html.

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 35

This is one of the best Tecno phones I have seen this year and considering the fact that it’s not an expensive device I feel the Spark 2 has all it takes to be a Flagship device , the only thing that changes that is the RAM. I spent two weeks with the device – Here’s my review video below –

Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel so you can stand a chance of winning awesome prices from smartphones to gadgets and data subscription.

O.S , DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The Tecno Spark 2 runs on HiOS 3.3.0 on Android 8.1.0 Oreo (Go Edition). The bezels are very slim and Tecno actually did a pretty good job on the design and gives the back a plastic finish which is more of a fingerprint magnet so I recommend you use the device with the plastic casing that comes with it. The UI is awesome and I never experienced any lagging on the device thanks to the Android  Go OS. The display is an impressive 6″ Display with an 18:9 aspect ratio so you can get an immersive experience while watching movies or gaming.
Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 36

The thing I don’t like about the device is the HiOS launcher that comes with it. It’s pretty difficult to navigate through and I hope Tecno can make improvements on the launcher but until then the best option is to install a third party launcher on the device.

Also the colors are nice and does not look over saturated, the white balance is great as well. Like all Android Go smartphones you still have the optimized lightweight Google apps – Maps Go , Gmail Go, YouTube Go , Google Go and my personal favorite Assistant Go. There’s also an Eye care feature that prevents eye strain while using your smartphone. The Spark 2 also supports portrait mode.

An interesting design change here is the headphone jack. Tecno may just have kicked off the future of headphone jacks by moving it to the bottom of the device. This move will actually make your headphones last longer. It’s an awesome move by Tecno although it will take a bit of getting used to.

PERFORMANCE

When it comes to performance the Tecno Spark 2 is one smartphone that definitely makes use of the small resources it has and maximizes it to the fullest. The Tecno Spark 2  is powered by an impressive 3500mAh non removable battery.
Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 39
The battery lasts for 18 hours on constant use and the only thing I don’t really like is the time it takes to go from 0-100% (about 4 hours). It could get frustrating at times. The Xcharge feature shows on the device while charging but I won’t say it’s a fast charge feature because of the time it takes to charge .Apart from that performance is pretty solid.
Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 40
I played Asphalt 8 for 1 hour and  only 13% went off the initial battery percentage. The device doesn’t over heat normally but extended gameplay can make it start feeling a bit warm. .
The Tecno Spark 2 is powered by a MediaTek Quadcore chipset clocked at 1.3GHz.  It also comes with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. To enjoy more space on the phone I suggest you get an SD Card.

CAMERA

Whenever I think of the Tecno Spark 2’s camera I feel like this –
Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 41
That’s because one of the selling points of the Tecno Spark 2 is the camera. You get an 8MP front camera that is accompanied by a dual LED flash and a 13MP rear camera that is accompanied by a ring LED flash. So both the front and back camera take quality picture. With that taking pictures at night is also awesome as there are different modes on the camera.
. Here are a couple of shots I took on the Tecno Spark 2 –

NETWORK ,BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY

The Sim slot is placed on the left hand side of the device and you have to bring it out using the sim ejector tool. Both sim slots are Nano.
Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 49
There’s support for WCDMA,HSPDA and GSM.
Coming to the battery , It packs in  a massive 3500 mah battery and can last up to 2 days on normal use. It takes about 4hrs to get full from 0%. The good part is that the OS it runs on is optimized for both data saving and battery saving so the battery may actually last more than those of other devices with the same capacity running on older android versions

SECURITY

Oukitel C8 (4G) Review - The Best Low Budget Smartphone With 2GB RAM And 4G Support 51

Another awesome feature on the Tecno Spark 2 is the Face ID feature. This allows you unlock your phone by just looking at your phone without using the fingerprint security or a PIN. I really love this feature as it makes unlocking the device seamless and easy. In case you are wondering how it works at night , It allows you turn on your front flash so it can easily identify your face even in the darkest places.

Also the fingerprint scanner does a really good job. It has a finger print scanner that unlocks within 0.1 seconds and it’s accuracy is top notch.
