9 Features On The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 That You'll Definitely Love 1

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 8 officially on August 23rd at an event  in New York City and I must say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is certainly an amazing device. The Note 8 is the next iteration of the Galaxy Note lineup. You probably heard about the Note 7 debacle in the news a lot last year and how it exploded but this year is going to be very different. Samsung has taken time to make sure that the Galaxy Note 8 remains a top notch smartphone without having the explosive side-effects. To the gamers out there, I’m sorry you won’t be getting a mod of Grand Theft Auto that uses a Samsung device as a bomb this year. Here are the top 9 feature on the Galaxy Note 8 I think you’d certainly love.

The Note 8 is yet to be launched in Nigeria Officially but keep an eye on this page for updates, I’ll also update you on announcements from Samsung and Other OEM’s at the IFA today.

9 Features On The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 That You'll Definitely Love 2

1.Dual Cameras:

Every OEM seems to be embedding  dual camera setups on their respective devices and Samsung is definitely not left out. The Note 8 is the first flagship of Samsung to sport dual cameras that come with optical image stabilization . This means that so no matter the conditions of the lighting around you ,your pictures would be always be crisp and clear. Both the cameras pack 12 megapixels each. The main sensor has a wide angle lens with a super-fast dual pixel autofocus and an aperture of  f/1.7  while the secondary camera sensor lets you do 10x digital zoom and 2x optical zoom

2.Edge-To-Edge Display:

You’ll be getting a device with a bigger screen to bezel ratio. The Note 8’s display measures 6.3 inches. It also has a Quad HD Super AMOLED Display (Infinity). If you are wondering what’s special about this feature – it comes with an 18:5:9 aspect ratio. So if you love large displays ,the Note 8 gives you exactly what you want.

3.More RAM:

The Note 8 is the first Samsung device to come with 6 GB RAM.Although there are other a couple of OEMs tahat already have 6 GB or more than that in their smartphones Samsung has always offered 4 GB RAM. However , the Galaxy Note 8 is the first to be getting a larger RAM size, so expect the phone to be able to multi-task seamlessly.

4.DeX:

This is definitely one of my favourite features Samsung has integrated DeX in the Note 8. This feature lets you place your device on a dock which would be connected to a monitor. This lets you have the feel of a computer. You would be able to play games using your mouse and keyboard, view apps on a bigger screen and view more apps on just a single screen. In summary, you can perform all the functions of the mobile phone just on a bigger screen. You can view up to 36 apps, you also have video conferencing, optimized email and video streaming functionality which is on a  totally new level.

5.S Pen:

The S pen lets you write on the lock screen so you  can easily take down sn otes or create reminders without having to open any app or clicking on any button. You can write up to 100 pages without even turning the screen on.
Sounds Impressive right?..
Now here’s the fun part ,If you hover the S Pen over any foreign text it will translate it to the default language that has been set on the smartphone. You can also convert foreign currencies in the same manner.

6.App Pairing:

You can launch two apps together in a multi-window. You would have to create a pair of the apps you want on your homescreen and then whenever you get any notifications or you simply  want to launch them together you can do so in the split mode.

7.Better Batteries:

Following the Note 7 mishap, Samsung taken time to make sure that the batteries for the Note 8 are good. Apart from the standard tests that all the Samsung batteries go through ,the batteries of the Note 8 have undergone tests with Samsung’s new technology for heat and an additional set of 8 other tests to make sure that the you get a safe device.  However the Note 8 comes with a smaller 3300mAh battery capacity unlike the S8 with 3500mAh.

8.Bluetooth 5:

Bluetooth 5 offers longer range transfers and faster speed. You can also pair two bluetooth devices at once. This means you can pair your headphones and your home theatre to your device at once. The bandwidth speed of Bluetooth 5 has been upgraded  to 2 Mbps and its broadcast message ability has been made 8 times better than its predecessor. What makes it more interesting is that while working on battery saver mode it’s 4 times better in terms of range and 2 times faster when it comes to transfers.

9.Bixby Assistant

Samsung’s own digital assitant, Bixby offers a range of extended functionalities that other assistants cannot and having this assistant alongside Google Assistant simply turns your phone to an amazing smartphone. For example you can ask Bixby to select the first picture on your gallery and post it to instagram with a caption of your choice. All these are voice controlled .You can activate Bixby by pressing the dedicated button on the side of the device. Of course you don’t expect me to tell you everything about the assistant. Simply get the device and see what I mean.

The Note 8 may seem a little bit expensive but trust me, it’s worth the money you spend on it .

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones?

Published

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 5

It’s 2019 and seeing smartphone companies make ” the foldable phone mistake ” isn’t a bit surprising but the biggest question I ask myself each time is this

Do we actually need foldable phones ?

Foldable Phone Mistake

The Foldable Phone Mistake – Do We Need Foldable Smartphones?

Before I dive into the whole foldable phone issue, let me take you on a little trip back in time. Starting from when our regular smartphone designs started witnessing some major changes. So without further ado, let’s get started.

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 6

In general, smartphone companies have always been competing with each other in order to get a larger market share with top Chinese companies like Vivo , Xiaomi And Oppo pushing design aesthetics to the max, sure enough they’ve gotten a lot of attention within the mobile phone Industry and are even the.

We all can clearly remember when Xiaomi started the bezelless trend back in 2016 with the release of the Xiaomi Mi Mix which was one of the first smartphones if not the first with very slim bezels.

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 7

Chinese Companies, Oppo and Vivo also pushed design limits to the edge by moving the position of the front camera in their phones – The Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex respectively. Take a look at these two devices.

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 8

You can clearly see what Oppo and Vivo did with their designs. In the Oppo Find X, both the front and rear camera’s are hidden and only slides up when you open the camera app while in the Vivo Nex only the front camera slides up.

Both designs are great but believe the “Nigerian” in me is still scared that the mechanical parts could fail. The way you feel when your camera doesn’t work on a regular phone would be worse on a phone with moving parts when it doesn’t even respond.

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 9

So basically here’s what our smartphones have gone from in the past couple of years and the last one is the new trend smartphone companies are heading to – Foldable Phones

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 10

You can clearly see how awkward that looks. At the moment, these foldable phones cannot even fit into anybody’s pocket so what’s the essence of the tablet become foldable if I can’t put it in my pocket without being scared of the screen having issues?

Personally I don’t know why they came up with this but if they are trying to bring back that nostalgic feeling that the foldable phones in the early 2000’s gave us, with the current technology in place, they are very far from it.

2019 Foldable Phones : Do We Actually Need Foldable Phones? 11

There are companies that are still testing this at the moment ,those who have already released theirs and those who have simply shelved the entire idea at the moment because I believe they understand the market more.

Brands like LG have completely shelved the idea for now according to their head of mobile communications and home entertainment divisions Brian Kwon

According to Kwon, the company weighed a potential release alongside the launch of its 5G phone. But rather than introduce a foldable smartphone at this time, the company plans to hold off while it gauges consumer responses to folding smartphone technology.

Per the Korean Times, Kwon added:The market demand for smartphones is expected to be at around 1 million but LG’s main issue in smartphone business is to regain its market position. Considering this situation, it is too early for LG to launch a foldable smartphone. In terms of technology, we are fully ready to respond depending on consumers’ reactions (to foldable smartphones).

So while LG is trying to study the market properly, Samsung already released theirs and I’m very curious to see how people respond to this.

Samsung’s current device costs around the $1200 dollar mark . I guess we would have to wait for a proper review to know how it works in general but still – What do we need a foldable phone for ?

Gionee S8s – Full Specifications And Cheapest Price In Nigeria And Kenya

Gionee S8s Price In Nigeria

Gionee Mobile seems to have come out from their smartphone drought and just released a new smartphone dubbed the Gionee S8S. In this post, we’ll be taking a close look at the full specifications and price of this device. If you remember some time ago, Gionee was allegedly bankrupt after their manager allegedly spent 1b yuan gambling at a casino and now it seems they’ll be coming back soon.

Gionee S8s Price In Nigeria

The Gionee S8s is a brand new smartphone in Gionee’s line up and according to Gionee is called the  “Notch Fullview Display”. The S8s comes with an impressive  5.86-inch display accompanied by 3GB of RAM alongside 32GB of internal storage (expandable via micro sd).

You also get a dual rear camera setup with a 3000mAh battery keeping the lights on. The best part of the battery is that it comes with fast charging support which according to Gionee will make the phone charge from 0-100 percent in less than an hour. The pricing isn’t too bad either. Nevertheless, enough of the chitchat. Let’s see what this phone comes with

Gionee S8s Design and Display

The design on the Gionee S8s isn’t really bad but there’s nothing too flashy about the device. You get a 5.86-inch display screen with the annoying wide notch cut out at the top where the front-facing camera is placed. I wonder why the notch everyone is abandoning is still being added to a Gionee phone in 2019 though

The display resolution gives you a 1520 x 720 pixels screen resolution with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It still has the chin at the bottom though

Gionee S8s Price In Nigeria

At the back of the device, you get to see the camera at the top left corner supported by an impressive LED flash underneath for better night shots. Like all new smartphones, it still has the fingerprint sensor for security and it’s placed at its usual position at the center. The overall device build is plastic and i’m not surprised considering the price range. It’s not too heavy as the phone just weighs 167.5 grams and measures 8.75mm in thickness .

When buying the device you get to choose between two color options; Matte Black and Gold. It uses two Nano SIM Card slots and another one for the micro SD card slot for expanding the memory

Gionee S8s Operating System

I’m pretty impressed that the phone ships with the Android 9.0 Pie OS as the Operating system. It also has Gionee’s UI customizing the whole user interface so you don’t expect to get a stock Android experience on this phone.

Performance and Hardware

In the performance department powering the phone is handled by a  MediaTek Helio P22 chipset which has an Octa-core Processor clocked at 2.0GHz. You also get an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU clocked at 650MHz.

In the memory department, you get 3GB of RAM which would ensure good user experience and better multitasking alongside 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded further using a micro sd card to up to 128GB through the in-built Micro SD card slot. T

Gionee S8s Camera

The main camera of the Gionee S8s is a dual camera setup. You get a 13MP main rear camera supported by the usual secondary 5MP camera which acts as a depth sensor and makes it possible to take photos in portrait mode. It also has a dual LED flash to improve pictures taken in low light conditions

Selfie lovers would get a  front facing camera with a single 8MP camera that’s enough for all their selfie needs.

Gionee S8s Connectivity and Battery

There is obviously the usual Bluetooth and WIFI adapter among many other sensors. There’s also support for 4G LTE connectivity, GPS and a USB Type-C port with support for USB On The Go (OTG).

Keeping the lights on is a 3,000mAh battery which I believe should be able to get you through the day if you aren’t a heavy smartphone user . However, Gionee says it would get you the day “with ease”. The battery also has full support for equipped with fast charging and Gionee says it should charge from 0-100 within an hour

Sad : Facebook To Shut Down It’s App By February 25 , Users May Lose Photos 12

Facebook Moments, the app that Facebook launched in 2015 to help you manage pictures of photos of you and your friends will be closed down on February 25.

The Facebook Moments app used Facebook’s facial recognition software to identify your friends through a bunch of photos so that you can group them all together.

Sad : Facebook To Shut Down It’s App By February 25 , Users May Lose Photos 13

I think why the app was not quite successful is because the app didn’t actually link those photos up to Facebook. The photos could only be viewed within the app. Uploading to Facebook directly was better.

Why Facebook Moments Is Shutting Down

According to Facebook – ‘not many people were using it’. However, we are seeing the application of the technology in Facebook’s native app when you receive notifications about old photos that you have uploaded with your friends in the form of ‘memories’. Facebook itself has not added any new features to it over the years.

For those who have been using the app and uploading photos in the app, there is no need to worry. Facebook has created a tool, that lets you create a private album of the photos on your Facebook account and the photos will only be visible to you. The second option is to download the photos to your device. The deadline period is until May, after which the photos will be deleted by Facebook

Xiaomi Launches In Africa To Compete Against Tecno, iTel and Infinix 14

A couple of months ago Xiaomi Global Spokesman Donovan Sung made a post about their new store that launched in Spain and also asked for suggestions on where they should launch their next store and here’s what I said.

Xiaomi Launches In Africa To Compete Against Tecno, iTel and Infinix 15

This means the expansion of Xiaomi had been on the cards for a while.

If you have been following up Xiaomi for a while, you would know that they tend to compete on the foreign market rather than their home country China due to the congestion.

Now, the company is looking to take things to the next level and come to Africa. On Sunday, Xiaomi announced the establishment of their African Regional Department and Wang Lingming (Xiaomi’s VP) was appointed as the manager of the department.
