I'm used to news about crazy Nigerian court rulings. There's even a case about a man getting arrested for naming his dog after Nigerian President Buhari 😂 😂 😂. However this time it's not in Nigeria this crazy ruling is happening, it's in Switzerland. 🇨🇭

A Swiss Court has fined a man for "liking" defamatory comments that were posted on Facebook.

The case involves comments made about Erwin Kessler, the head of an animal protection group.

In the comments he was accused of being anti-Semitic and racist.

According to the court, the defendant " endorsed the content and made it his own" by liking comments. I think this is very weird

How is that even possible? So because I decide to like a status randomly or I feel the post is good, it becomes mine. It's totally unfair and uncalled for.

According to Swiss Newspaper Le Temps, the 45-year-old man liked six comments

Several people have been convicted but none for only "liking" comments made by others.

According to the AFP news agency, Mr Kessler was convicted under anti-racism laws nearly 20 years ago.

According to the BBC, the court also said that the action of "liking" the comments "made them accessibly to a large number of people", and were thus an "affront to [Kessler's] honour".

He was given a conditional fine of 4,000 Swiss francs (£3,200; $4,100, N1.5million), according to AFP.

The verdict can be appealed against.
