Lineage OS ROM Now Available For Various Devices

Cyanogen initially shut down its operations towards the end of 2016 and has now resurfaced as LineageOS. The new platform is hosted on a different site and this just appears to be a major rebranding effort by Cyanogen.

Builds are rolling out for a number of devices including:

Nexus 6P & 5X
Moto G4/G4 Plus
Nextbit Robin
Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S

If you were an ardent fan of CyanogenMod, there’s really something new to get from the LineageOS rebrand. You can download it right away  Here.

LineageOS will very soon be available for a variety of devices. The firm has said that they will be able to cover over 80 supported devices soon. There also will be weekly builds and they won’t be offering root prebaked into ROM moving forward. However, users who want to activate super-user status will be able to do so by simply downloading a zip-based installation that’s quite similar to that of gapps.

LineageOS is also rolling out an experimental migration build allowing users to ‘upgrade’ from CM to LineageOS weekly. There’s concern that this might effectively wipe permissions (and you have to re-okay them), but all the same, retains your user data. In the case the ‘upgrade’ fails, you’d need to wipe out the data and then manually flash a fresh build. This experimental build is only temporary and just available for two months.

Now that CyanogenMod is back in the form of LineageOS, it’ll be interesting to see what they do to avoid a catastrophic failure like happened last year.
