5 Reasons Why Some Android Smartphones Are Expensive

5 Reasons Why Some Android Smartphones Are Expensive 1
Smartphones are quite popular these days but most aren’t too affordable. I decided to make a research. Here are the reasons why some Android phones are expensive

Cost Of Production

The device manufacturers normally go through the cost of producing the device. They now decide how much they wish to make on the device. Apple makes about 3 times of the cost of producing their devices.

Profit Earned By The Company.

The lower the smartphone price, the lower the company earns and vice versa . I think this plays a major role in determining the price of a smartphone because if the manufacturers reduce the price, it would reflect on the price of the device in a few weeks.

Customer Preference

Most smartphone companies divide their product targeting into 4. This helps them determine how much a product should be placed so that it gets to all classes of people in the economy.

1. Rich customer/customer who cares a lot about their tech/Customer who wants to look hip with the latest high-end tech – High-end smartphone AND high-end tablet (costs lot, big margins)

2. Poorer customer who just wants a smartphone or tablet – low-cost smartphone OR low cost tablet (pretty cheap, small margins)

3. Savvy customer who’s chosen what’s best for their (bigger) budget – High-end smartphone

4. Savvy poorer customer who’s chosen what’s best for their (smaller) budget – Low-end phone tab

Exchange Rate

Most of the times you wail and shout about the cost of a device without knowing that it’s our exchange rate that’s causing the rise in price. A Smartphone that should sell for N15,000 in a stable economy now sells for double of the price

Customer Reach Link
The number of people the phone goes through before it gets to you might determine the cost  Let’s assume that the importer of a phone of  15,000 sells it for N20,000 – Wholesaler buys from manufacturer and sells For N23,000 –  Retailer buys from wholesaler and sells for N27,000.

You can see how the price  has increased

Tecno Camon i4 – Full Specs And Cheapest Price

Published

on

Tecno Camon i4

Tecno just launched a new device into the Camon lineup the Tecno Camon i4 and the device comes with very impressive specifications and a very good price in this post I’ll be looking at the specs of the Tecno Camon i4.

Tecno Camon i4

The TECNO CAMON i4 ships with a mid-range MediaTek Helio A22 processor for the 2GB / 3GB RAM version and a MediaTek Helio P22 processor for the 4GB RAM version and 32GB / 64GB  of internal storage.

The Camon i4 runs on Android 9.0 with HiOS 4.6 on top, keeping the lights on is a 3500mAh battery with support for fast charging.

I do hope the fast charging isn’t the same as the Xcharge on the Tecno Spark 2 because that means it’s not actually fast charge. Tecno deserves this shirt on that note

Design And Display

I’m quite impressed with the fact that Tecno decided to go with the dewdrop notch on this device instead of that lousy Apple-like rectangular notch. This one is quite similar to the one on the Samsung M20 and I’d say it’s not bad at all considering the fact that they’ve been giving us phones with notches since the release of the Camon 11 Pro.

You basically get a 6.2-inch IPS Capacitive display with an 81.3% screen-to-body ratio. It’s not something you would call totally bezelless as there’s still as small chin below the device.

Camera

The Camera is one of the selling points of this device as the smartphone’s triple camera has a 13MP, 8MP, and 2MP lens combination, which means you would get an impressive performance while taking photos and recording videos at 1080p. The secondary camera at the front is a 16-MP lens and great for selfies. You also get better quality when calling someone via video so cheers to the Snapchat and Instagram Slay Queens.

Software And Hardware

In the specifications department, I’ll give Tecno a B+ on this. The Camon i4 comes with a MediaTek Helio A22 chipset clocked at 2-GHz combined with a Cortex A53 quad-core processor, which takes charge of the Camon i4’s performance. In the graphics department, you get A PowerVR GE8300 GPU to take care of the graphics. There’s also a 4GB variant that comes with a higher Helio P22 Chipset.

Storage

The Camon i4 comes with 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 256GB via a memory card. There are 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB variants.

Network And Connectivity

The new Tecno Camon i4 offers a variety of options for easy connectivity, which includes 4G with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE), Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, micro-USB, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.

Battery

The Tecno Camon i4 ships with a 3500 mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery which means you get a battery that’s enough to last you 10 hours when used actively and about 36 hours when on standby

TECNO Camon i4 Specifications

  • Display: 6.217-inch (1520 x 720) pixels) HD+ display

How Multiple Cameras Work On Android And iOS Smartphones 5

How multiple cameras work on smartphones have always been a question on the minds of most people and 2019 is the year of multiple cameras and many if not all smartphone brands have released phones with multiple cameras. You’ve probably seen the Nokia 9 Pureview with 5 cameras and the Huawei P30 Pro that comes with 4 cameras  (40MP + 20MP +12MP +TOF Camera) and 50x optical zoom.

How Multiple Cameras Work

These two devices come with crazy specifications but I won’t go into that right now, maybe in another post.

However, have you ever tried covering the main camera of your device with a dual camera?

If you haven’t, try doing that right now.

You’ll notice you are actually blocking the whole camera. That leaves the question – What do the secondary cameras do and how do they work.

How Multiple Cameras Work

Now I want you to understand this. Most OEMs have other uses of their secondary camera other than the ones I’m going to mention below. These are just the basic functions of the secondary camera.

The secondary camera improves the overall clarity of the image with the help of a “Monochrome” feature. The secondary camera only records the black and white version of the image. With the help of the Monochrome sensor, the primary camera measures how much light is coming from the point of focus.

Previously (with the exception of the Google Pixel 3), the primary camera in smartphones normally handled the measurement so there was a very high possibility of losing some detail while measuring light intensity since it would still need to work on the color filtering.

So this extra burden is handled by the second camera which takes care of that area. Combining the monochrome image which has detailed information about the light and sharpness with the colored image that was captured by the primary camera will produce a rich and detailed image.

In some phones, the secondary camera acts as the zoom lens. Huawei uses their cameras on the P30 Pro a bit differently but going into the entire details might end up making this post a bit lengthy and a bit boring for people who aren’t hardcore techies so I’d try to keep this balanced. However, if you’d like to see that in another post do let me know in the comments.

So that’s basically how multiple cameras work on smartphones
