CEO of Instagram, Kevin Systrom confirmed last week that the company is working to bring a live video feature at some point in the future.
He didn't give precise features of the video launch, but you can expect the live feature to be similar to Facebook Live. If you are in a situation where you wish to stream video to followers, simply open up the Instagram camera, then go live.
According to Financial Times, Systrom said, “Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing. If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them.”
As detailed in screenshots of the experimental feature, live broadcasts will be highlighted in the same spot you see Stories inside of the app. If someone you follow is live, you should see a red ring around their profile photo, which will lead you directly to their broadcast.
Sadly, I don't know when the live video is coming, but I can definitely assure you it is.
