How To Update Android One Device To Android Nougat (7.0)

XDA Developers are always doing a good job. In the latest feat, they have managed to beat  Google at offering a software update for the Android 7.0 Nougat. XDA has successfully rolled out the CM14 ROM for 1st generation Android One devices. Well, we’re in the third quarter of 2016 and surprises are still happening.

Basically, this ROM contains the latest features Android 7.0 Nougat brings and it has been launched on an aging device. This is great news especially considered that Google is still working to make the Nougat update for their Nexus 6 handset, and XDA is already ahead (by far) of things with unpopular devices.

Android One is a unique line of devices that run on Android. Created by Google for Android systems, the target customers for this initiative are in the developing world. Google is actively managing the designing, development, support and marketing of all these devices, although the manufacturing is done by partner OEMs. Devices under the Android One initiative run operating system that’s close to the stock android, lacking the often diverse medications that many vendors implement. Google also handles the security and system updates for these handsets.

If you happen to own an Android One handset, you can easily update your phone to the latest version of Google mobile OS, Android 7.0 through CM14 made available by XDA. The required files can be downloaded here. You’ll also refer to the necessary instructions on the same link. The only thing worth noting right now is that CM14 ROM is in its early development stages thus a couple of major issues are likely to manifest. To start with, users who install this update will be unable to use cellular data and there is also reported trouble with video encoding and decoding.
